Human equivalent: Images of sexy women and men dangled before us in movies, advertising, tv, etc. enticing us to beat ourselves up in a desperate attempt to achieve the "ideal" (read often unrealistic and Photoshopped) proportions.
Do you know how much longer it would take to text "ghastly" instead of "bad?" And that's not even taking into consideration the need to spell it correctly! I am way too busy trying to drive to worry about whether I use a creative or a common word in my texts! I mean really! ;-)
Scene: Therapist office. Patient lying on a couch. Therapist scribbling madly. Patient: "I don't know what it is Doc, but whenever I see a hand towel, I get this unexplainable terror that it is going to jump up and rip my face off. Is this normal?"
While super cute, Roozle's response to coloring before bed is not surprising as it is a form of meditation with an external focus. I have read the suggestion of coloring being given many times for people with anxiety and depression to assist them in meditation and mindfulness.
The toy that WAS intended for children, that had even been redesigned based on what young girls wanted, but had unintended consequences was Earring Magic Ken. According to Wiki: "Observers quickly noted the resemblance of Earring Magic Ken to a stereotypical gay man, from the purple clothes to the earring to the necklace, which was described as a 'chrome cock ring.'" This should definitely be on the list! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earring_Magic_Ken
Remy, don't know you outside your posts, but you seem like good people. Keep up the search for humanity and for empathy. I promise it really is out there.
In the article posted above by Barkin_Bud, Rebecca Nagle, one of the co-directors of an activist group called FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture, states “I don’t want to f[***]ing test my drink when I’m at the bar. That’s not the world I want to live in.”
As a female, that's not the world I want to live in either, but unfortunately we do! And while I continue to advocate and work towards a world where NO ONE has to live in fear, I will advocate and cheer for anything that give ANY OF US another way to provide protection from a predator (this can be used by men as well!).
Also, this may be rather sexist, but if the pic is an indicator of who is responsible for creating the nail polish, I give a HUGE CHEER to these men (and all men of the world) who wish to help women protect themselves! Thank you for recognizing that this is a dangerous world, and thank you for helping to make it a little safer.
The show playing in the background is "How I Met Your Mother" Episode 14 (Last Words), 6th season. Don't you just love the internet?
I love Robin Hood and the Black Cauldron, and I think that The Sword in the Stone should be included on this list.
