What Is It? game 332

Hey look! It's time for our collaboration with the wonderful What Is It? Blog! Do you know what the terrifying object in this picture is? It doesn't really matter if you do, because we are looking for the funniest guesses. You can win a t-shirt from the NeatoShop! But first, read the rules:

Place your guess in the comment section below. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many as you'd like. Two winners who submit funny and/or clever (albeit ultimately wrong) answers will each win a T-shirt from the NeatoShop.

If you guess the correct answer, you'll get a big pat on the back.

Please write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess. If you don't include a selection, you forfeit the prize, okay? May we suggest the Science T-Shirt, Funny T-Shirt and Artist-Designed T-Shirts?

There are a few more scary pictures of this thing at the What Is It? Blog. Yeah, it opens up (shiver). Good luck!

Update: This device is probably for cooking meat in a fireplace. That makes sense. We prefer answers that don’t make much sense, but do make us laugh. Jes Rickard Smith had a good one: “I believe it is a "Morning Wood Preventer" For those awkward sleepovers at nana's house.” That’s good for a t-shirt from the NeatoShop! Another t-shirt goes to David Addams, who said this was “ a prototype for the Krell "Brain Boost" machine from Forbidden Planet. If using the first side didn't work, you had to use the second.” I found a picture of it in use:

Aren't you glad I didn't look for a picture of the first answer? Congratulations to our winners! You can see the answers to all the mystery items of the week at the What Is It? blog.

When someone volunteers to sleep inside the iron maiden, this is used as a "Practice Iron Maiden". If they enjoy the experience with this restful piece of equipment, they can go full size next.

This was an early bear trap, before the spring loaded kind were invented. The hunter had to be incredibly fast in order to manually close it when the bear placed his foot on the lower set of spikes.

It's a corn-nut decobber. Just place the mouth around one end of a cob of corn-nut, grasp the handles and after about 15 minutes worth of sweating and cussing, you've got farm fresh corn-nuts.

This is a medically prescribed device for home use by the patient. The device is worn similarly to a stethoscope. With the earpiece in place the trap is suspended in front of the patient's sternum. The patient is instructed on how to identify the sound of 'gnawed breastbone'; a precursor to emergence. Forewarned, the patient opens the trap and waits for the alien to poke her little head out. Entrapment complete, the device and its trapping are returned for proper disposal.
