Adorable Pics Of Pets Stealing Their Owner's Significant Other

(Image Link)

Humans who get jealous when their lover spends time with other humans are often dealing with issues of insecurity and abandonment, which is why they care so much that their significant other is spending time with someone else.

But you're taking your personal issues a bit too far if you get jealous of a pet, except when that pet is actively and aggressively trying to break the two of you up and steal your significant other.

(Image Link)

That's when you have to wonder how deep your pet's feelings for your boyfriend or girlfriend run, and whether you should be thinking about finding them a furry partner of their own- for safety's sake.

No matter how crazy in love your pet becomes keep repeating these words to yourself- it's only a phase, they're just being a (insert species here), they don't live that long, it's probably all in your head...

Scientists Discover Sharks Living Inside An Active Volcano

(Image Link)

Sharks can be scary as hell when encountered while swimming around in the ocean, so imagine how terrifying it would be to come across them inside an active volcano!

It may sound like the plot of a cheesy sci-fi movie like Sharknado but it's true- back in 2015 scientists discovered living sharks inside Kavachi, an active underwater volcano in the Solomon Islands.

(Image Link)

Researchers sent down a robotic camera that captured the stunning footage of a Pacific sleeper shark, hammerhead sharks and silky sharks swimming around inside the acidic and super-heated environment like it's no big deal:

“Divers who have gotten close to the outer edge of the volcano have had to back away because of how hot it is or because they were getting mild skin burns from the acid water,” Phillips said. “These large animals are living in what you have to assume is much hotter and much more acidic water, and they’re just hanging out. It makes you question what type of extreme environment these animals are adapted to. What sort of changes have they undergone? Are there only certain animals that can withstand it?

A Fascinating Timelapse Video Showing The Metamorphosis Of A Dragonfly

Dragonflies are absolutely gorgeous insects, with vibrantly-colored bodies and magically iridescent wings that shimmer in the light, but did you know they start out as ugly little bugs called nymphs before they become beautiful?

Just kidding, dragonflies even look cool in their nymph stage, and as cool as it is to see a dragonfly up close it's even cooler to watch one transform from a plain-colored nymph to a colorful adult in this video from Beauty of Science:

This short film documented the magical transformation (metamorphosis) of a dragonfly from its nymph to an adult. All footages were captured with an iPhone 6s from May 25th 11pm to May 26th 7am. This transformation is a wonder of nature.

A Lively Reunion

Tom has been gone for ten months. My guess is that he was away at school. When he finally returned home, the two family dogs got a bit excited to see him. You know the phrase "love you to death"? That's what this looks like, as they knock him down completely, and almost suffocate him with affection.

(YouTube link)

Even afterward, the two dogs keep pouncing on him in tender places. Tom's father can't stop laughing long enough to frame the event correctly. Poor Tom -at least the dogs are happy! -via Digg

Meet Dobby Cat

He goes by Dobby Cat on Facebook because he looks so much like the Harry Potter character, but his real name is Teddy. Teddy is an oriental shorthair who lives in a household with three other cats of the same breed (Bindi, Stache, and Dexter), but Teddy has the biggest ears, the longest nose, and legs that go on for days. Those slightly crossed but soulful eyes are full of love and contentment. He's got a meow that they describe as a "honk," but it sounds more like a "beep."

Academics With Cats Award Winners

The winners have been selected in Academia Obscura's Academics With Cats competition. A cat hiding in a bookshelf won Best In Show. The kitten shown here is the winner in the Research Assistant category. His name is Benny, and he belongs to Anthony Bale. We can see Benny is hard at work editing a thesis draft. At least I hope it's a draft. See the winners in each category and several runners-up at Academia Obscura. See all the entries at Twitter.

Bettie Bee, the Two-Faced Kitten

A kitten was born with two faces a couple of weeks ago in South Africa. The scientific term is diprosopus, or craniofacial duplication. It is attributed to abnormal activity of the sonic hedgehog protein. Cats with the condition are known as Janus cats.

Bettie Bee appears to be healthy so far. Since this picture was taken a couple of days ago, her two normal eyes have opened, while the connected eye where the two faces meet has remained mostly shut. Chantal Rushmer of Purrfect Friends Foundation has been feeding Bettie Bee by hand since birth, because she couldn't nurse properly. While she has two functioning mouths, they lead to the same stomach. You can follow Bettie Bee's progress at her Facebook page. -via Boing Boing

Some people still refuse to accept that goats are cute critters, and a few of these haters claim baby goats are too strange looking to be considered cute, which we know to be a straight up lie.

Rotating Your Cat

Alma T. C. Boykin has a blog called Cat Rotator's Quarterly. The blog is not about rotating cats, or even about cats in general. The name makes sense when you know the secret.

Rotating one’s cat is a writer euphemism for pure procrastination.

Gotcha. However, a recent post addressed the need to rotate one's cat occasionally. When a cat stays in one position long enough, he may become flat on one side.

The ideal is a well-rounded cat, with symmetrical spherosity.

Further research may be needed to reconcile this observation with the fact that cats are liquid. Have you rotated your cat today? See plenty of visual aids at Cat Rotator's Quarterly. Now, excuse me, I have to go rotate my cats. -via Strange Company

7 Times Animals Bit Off More Than They Could Chew in 2017

National Geographic News came up with a cute idea for a year-end list. There were quite a few animal stories about creatures eating, including a couple that thought they could chew up an automobile. Most of the stories are in video form, and some are cute while others are a bit cringe-inducing. The puffin above stood still just long enough to get his photograph made before he gulped down a whole school of fish he'd caught all at once. See the rest of the stories at NatGeo.

A Deer Goes to the Store

Lori Jones works at Horsetooth Inn and RV Park in Stout, Colorado. Last month she watched a deer walk into the gift shop like it owned the place. The doe looked around at all the wares, while Jones snapped pictures. She then got a peanut bar to lure the deer back outside. But that wasn't the end of the story.

“Later, I was in the office checking the store stock,” Lori wrote. “I walked out and there she was with her twins and a lone buck that she nursed. I just used my phone to snap the pics. I laughed so hard!”

It's like that old saying, if you give a man a fish, he'll be back tomorrow for another fish. You can see the entire sequence of images at 9news. They'll display larger here. -via Mr. Drinks On Me

Big Cat Christmas Party

Chris Poole spends a lot of time recording videos of his cats Cole and Marmalade, but he also works to bring awareness to the plight of homeless cats and big cats, too. Watch some big cats opening their Christmas gifts, wrapped up in boxes, bags, tires, and dangling toys on a string! Like house cats, they enjoy the wrapping as much as they enjoy the food inside.

This video was made at Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa.

Lucky the Scheming Cockatiel

Lucky the cockatiel has learned to sing what he hears more than anything else: the Apple default ringtone. For me, this is the FaceTime alert. Lucky sings whenever he feels he's not getting enough attention, like when his human gets ready to leave the house. After all, it works for that device he carries!

(YouTube link)

That video went viral this week, and we have a followup video of Lucky seeing (or rather, hearing) his own singing. He is not at all impressed. What can he do to stop this madness?

Yeah, he knows eating the ESC key would do it. Now, there is no escape! -via reddit

Man Captures The Moment A Shark Bites His Wife On Video

Shark attacks are a pretty rare occurrence, and a shark attack caught on video is even rarer, but that's just what Sarah and Evan Carroll received as a wedding present from the denizens of the deep.

Sarah and Evan were honeymooning in the Caribbean when they decided to go scuba diving, and for some reason Sarah's arms looked appetizing to a nearby nurse shark- so it rushed in and took a bite:

According to PEOPLE, Evan happened to be filming at the time and Sarah later shared video and pictures of her injury.

"I felt a strong whoosh of water, something clamp down on my arm and assumed my husband was playing a prank on me," Sarah, 25, told the magazine. "Less than a second later I realized how much it hurt and looked … to see the shark latched onto my arm."

The New York Daily News reports it was a 5-foot nurse shark that bit Sarah. Sarah accompanied pictures of the bite with the Facebook caption "Ended the honeymoon with a bang (bite)."
