Deer Fill the Street in a Japanese Town

About 1,000 deer live in the roughly 1,200 acres that constitute Nara Park in Nara, Japan. The deer are wild, but used to humans. In fact, they're known to bow respectfully to visitors and walk across crosswalks only when permitted.
But in a quiet show of force, many of them have left the park and begun camping out on a sidewalk and street in the town. Some are going so far as to lie down in the road and impede vehicular traffic.
The rising has begun. The Day of the Deer is at hand.

I just hope the deer living in the hills behind my 'just off the highway 3 miles from town' home location don't get any ideas from this (checks over shoulder to make sure no deer are looking at my monitor). We already had a notable incident near me where a deer decided to race a motorcycle down the frontage road - with fatal consequences, for the deer, and almost for the biker, who had to be pulled out from underneath his cycle AND the deer by a semi-heroic neighbor of mine (the hot cycle caused him 3rd degree burns AND turned the deer into roasted venison). I don't know where that deer got the idea to do that, but I suspect it was the Internet.
