Soviet Hobbit Illustrations
A 1976 edition of The Hobbit published in the Soviet Union has illustrations by M. Belomlinskij. They reflect the style of the time, although they also somewhat resemble woodcuts. Of course, you are familiar enough with the characters that you recognize them even without the text, which would be in Russian anyway. See more illustrations at Retronaut. -via mental_floss
