Mike Alcantara's Comic Book Collages

Mike Alcantara, an artist in Austin, makes collages from old comic books, often to create portraits of superheroes. You can find a gallery of his work here.

A few weeks ago, Punching the Walls of Reality interviewed Mr. Alcantara at the Alamo City Comic Con in San Antonio. He described how he completes these labor-intensive projects. A lot of organization is necessary.

Mr. Alcantara is now working on an Aquaman collage, probably in the form of a bust. So perhaps the much-maligned fish talker will get the respect he deserves.

Love pool---billiards. Played a pretty good stick back in the day, a lot in college. I see the photo above is straight rail billiards. Nice game. I've seen guys play 3 cushion and even 5 cushion games, very hard. Easiest game is on those short bar tables playing 8 ball. 9 ball is THE money game.

Let us not forget too the very popular and classic episode of The Twilight Zone with Jack Klugman & Jonathan Winters (his character based on Minnesota Fats). One of my favorite episodes. ESPN used to show professionals having trick shot tournaments. Alwas fun to watch.

Great article, Eddie.

FYI - A serviceable billiards table, balls, and cue sticks can be made using materials you might find on a desert island - the hardest part was getting the colors right for the coconut balls - especially the 4, 8 and 12.
