104 Weeks and The Counting is Over!
At around 100 weeks the baby called me Mommy and promptly took it back. The Baby and I were playing a game that I like to call Can You Say. I ask, for example, can you say "cat" and The Baby will respond by saying the word "cat". I always tried to sneak in the word Mama, Mom, and Mommy. Without fail, however, The Baby always caught me. She would shake her head, scream or say no, throw something, or just walk away. It really depended on her mood. This time, however, she repeated the word Mommy, stared at me for a moment, put her hands on her face and promptly screamed, "Oh no!" My husband witnessed The Event and thought it was possibly the funniest thing he had ever seen.
For about a week after The Event she still refused to say Mom, Mamma, or Mommy. Then slowly she started calling me Mom and Mommy. She still refuses to say Mommy if you ask her to say Mommy. She will only say the words on her own terms. I can accept this compromise. The Baby has a big personality and I think that is just fine.
So, it is with great pleasure that I officially close this post with the news that at 104 Weeks the counting is finally over. The Baby now calls me Mommy (sometimes). Victory is mine!
