Toy Collection Liquidated on eBay to Pay for Bathtub Kids Broke

So much of parenting is watching your kids destroy your stuff. The other part is making the kids take responsibility for having done so. eBay seller daney21 is selling his sons' collection of Beyblades -- that's a type of manga-inspired spinning toy -- to pay for the bathtub that the boys destroyed while playing with them:

We are selling 8 Beyblades, 2 of them light up. As you can tell they are not happy about this! They have been using their bathtub as a "battle arena" and Beyblades + Bathtub = Destruction!!! With the metal ones they managed to scrape the enamel off the tub, take a chunk of tub out and break off the soap holder. SO if you "win" this auction DON'T play with in a bathtub!!! We have recieved a quote of $500.00 to replace the tub, some tiles, and soap holder + labor of course! They had approxamently $125.67 in their piggy banks that will be going to toward the cost. We will use the profit from this auction towards the balance and then it is onto other toys!

So far, the bidding is over $9,000.

@Robert... having a child of my own, it is more than probably that the boys were told over and over and over and probably given ample warning to stop playing with the toys in the tub.

LOL sounds like something my grandparents would do. When my daughter stole a toy from a store, we went back to the store with toy in hand and her piggy bank. She was forced to pay for the toy with her money she'd been saving and didnt get to play with the toy for a few days--she was 5 at the time. She is now 7 :P

I don't see where she mentions anything about telling them over and over again not to use these in the tub. This type of damage shouldn't happen in just one mis-use, the toys should have been taken away as soon as damage was noted. I'm a mother of two grown children and I teach 4th grade, and children don't understand punishment that doesn't relate to the offense. I agree that this seems to take punishment to an unnecessary level.
Meanness doesn't equal punishment. I do wonder if this will turn out to be a semi-hoax on behalf of the mom, just to get her 15 seconds of internet fame.

I think it's kind of silly to think that social services would need to be called in. What an awesome way to teach your child a lesson! Parents now a days are too "soft" and worried that their kids won't like them. You're the parents and I think it's great! My mom sold one of my toys when I was young (6) because I broke a dresser. Fine by me, I learned to not play on my moms stuff anymore. No more sold toys, no more broken dressers. :)
Besides, it's toys. They'll get over it.

FTL Space Drive, Artificial Gravity, Blasters, Hover cars, Huge Capacity Micro Power Supplies, and not one sentient being has the brains to figure out how to put a postage stamp sized voice chip in R2-D2 or make Darth's respirator run quiet?

This scene makes a lot of sense; damn, Luke looks almost evil in his tinkering, and the ROTJ scene where Vader holds the lightsaber always struck me as ridiculous. It's the first time we see it, and Vader comments on its construction; all we see is what looks like an attachment that old flashlights used to have to magnetically attach them to a refrigerator.

NOW I GET IT. Should have kept it in, George.
