Why You Should Always Put Your Luggage in the Hotel Room Bathtub

It's far too easy to pick up an infestation of bedbugs while staying in a hotel and then bringing the critters back home with you. That's why travel writer Lydia Mansel advocates for placing your luggage in the hotel room's bathtub as soon as you arrive.

Travel + Leisure magazine explains that bedbugs prefer to live in fabric surfaces, so the most straightforward solution is to reduce contact between your luggage and fabrics, such as the carpet.

You can also leave a note on your luggage to ask the housekeeping staff to leave your luggage in its otherwise puzzling location.

So, do not use the dressers, nor the closet, nor the in-house laundry. nor buy any clothes from their shops. Not sure what to do about room service..

We got relocated to Lake Charles and the company put us up in a local hotel which it turns out was infested with scabies! I had such a bad reaction to the bites that I had huge watery blisters the size of silver dollars. Got misdiagnosed by the first doctor that said I had herpes. Wrong. I finally found another doctor that took one look at my blisters and said I had caught scabies from that hotel. How did he know? Because he'd had scabies once, too. It took over a full year to rid ourselves and our clothing of those damned bugs. Twice a week we'd have to strip the beddings and sterilize the sheets and clothing in our new washing machine that had a sterilizer button on it. Ask me why I'm no fan of Louisiana.
