How Soap Kills the Coronavirus

Soap is the ultimate virus annihilator. We've heard about washing your hands for 20 seconds, and we've heard about how important it is to stop the spread of coronavirus. We've even learned tricks to calculate those 20 seconds. However, that lesson makes a lot more sense when you know exactly how it works. That 20 second rule isn't just the optimum time to wash your hands, it's the minimum time for soap to be effective. So soaping up for ten seconds and rinsing, then soaping up for another ten seconds just doesn't do the trick. If we do it right the first time, the coronavirus on our hands will die.

I am a dishwasher, and I approve this message. Good points about the hand sanitizer also. I always suspected it wasn't as effective as people thought it was. But I will say rubbing sanitizer on the handle of a shopping cart is probably not a bad idea. Or door handles.

This will also be evidence against the way my kids wash dishes, wiping them one at a time with a soapy cloth, with the water running constantly. I run enough water to cover the dishes in the sink and squirt soap in, letting them soak for a little while as I wash. My way uses less soap and water, and now I know for sure that it gets the dishes cleaner!
