Is Organic Really Better? Healthy Food or Trendy Scam?

What's the real difference between organic produce and fruits and vegetables without the organic label? Kurzgesagt takes us through the ins and outs of how organic produce compares, in nutrition, in how natural it is, and how organic farming affects the environment. One thing that surprised me is that organic foods can be produced using pesticides -as long as the pesticide itself is organic. Of course, all this only makes a difference if you eat a decent amount of fruits and vegetables, which most of us don't.

A long time ago, I received a letter from a farmer from India who proudly claimed that he's just realized that he's an organic farmer. Before, he thought he was simply a poor farmer because he couldn't afford fertilizers!

I never buy organic. Too expensive due to 1) the additional manual labor required to get it to market and 2) the overall yields are lower than conventional farming. Awful hard to get that yield without some kind of pesticide.

A real eye-opener. I've heard in other places that organic isn't all it's cracked up to be. Also, crops aren't all the same - in some cases organic may be better, but in others conventional is just fine. The real solution is to eat your veggies, and eat more of them. As my great-grandpa said, eat every carrot and pea on your plate!
