The Best Ways To Handle Forgetting Someone's Name

Forgetting someone's name will only become an embarrassing situation if you turn it into one, so if you ever run into someone and can't for the life of you remember their name just keep cool and ask them again.

Don't have the moxy to admit that you can't recall their name?

Just don't start calling people by some cockamamie nickname or you'll never learn anyone's real name, and you probably shouldn't just call them by some random name either unless you're prepared to feel really awkward.

And if you were okay with awkwardness then why didn't you just ask their name instead of doing the whole song and dance?

These tips and more can be found in this comic strip by Charles Higson, it'll make you question whether you'll want to meet another new person ever again!

I just try to keep conversation generic until they go away. Often from boredom.
I once ran into a person in the grocery store who started talking with me. She seemed to remember me, and knew a bit about me, I think. We talked for a couple minutes, and then I was out of ideas. I made my confession that I didn't know who she was, and she said that we spoke last week in the same store, next to the eggs.

All I could think was: "People remember other people that they just run into?"

One of my neighbours recently taught me this trick that's really worked for me. When you're introduced to someone, link their name to someone you already know with the same name. It doesn't help me when I meet a lot of people at the same time, but whenever I've met just one or two people, I've gone from remembering no names to remembering all the names.
