The Best Western Movies Ever Made

Hollywood doesn't make Westerns the way they used to. In fact, they don't make many Westerns at all in the 21st century. They are expensive, unfamiliar to younger audiences, and require a certain suspension of disbelief about history. Yet we have hundreds, if not thousands, of old Westerns we can select to watch in our leisure time. Which ones are worth the effort? You might want to check out a list of 25 movies at The Art of Manliness called The Best Western Movies Ever Made, with a description of each one. I bet you haven't seen them all!  -Thanks, Tim!

Westerns? They ain't got the best westerns! They don't know the best westerns. I'll show you the stinkin best westerns!

An impressive list. I've seen all but two and am thinking that in addition to the one cutely referenced above, there are a few others more deserving: Little Big Man, Hondo, Blazing Saddles, Ulzana's Raid, the John Ford Cavalry Trilogy and since they included No Country for Old Men - Hell or High Water.

OK - that's more than a few and I cheated. Perhaps the list is just too short. . .

Glad to see Liberty Valance made the list. It's one of only two on the list (with The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly) that I've seen that wasn't overtly boring. (Dances with Wolves? Yawwn. Silverado? I don't think it even had a plot.)
But they left off Quigley Down Under! Guess it's not considered a 'Western' if it takes place in Australia, eh?

Good list. The cavalry trilogy is missing. Shane's words,“A gun is a tool, Marian; no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel, or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.” ring true these days.
