The infamous site 11foot8 monitors the underpass on Gregson Street in Durham, North Carolina (previously at Neatorama). Last weekend, another truck driver did not heed the sign warning of the 11 foot 8 inch clearance, nor the flashing lights. The railroad bridge acted like a can opener, slicing the top right off. In a lot of the crashes at this location, the driver doesn't even realize how high their truck is, but this guy ran the red light, too, so he may just be blind, or at least oblivious.

There's a low railroad bridge north of Syracuse that despite all the warning signs and devices, still gets hit. Once it was a bus and there were fatalities. All too many drivers not really paying attention.

This particular bridge was built back in the 1930's I believe. I'm not sure when the troubles began. It is on a "parkway" of sorts and designating it as a road for passenger cars only (there is an alternative route available for trucks and buses) would instantly solve the issue. Don't ask me why that hasn't been done. Neither the municipality or railroad involved seem to want to spend the funds needed to either raise the rail line or lower the road. I recall that all overpasses on interstates had to be built high enough to accommodate US military missile carriers.

Great story on this bridge in the WSJ a while back. They can't raise it because of the railroad tracks. They also can't lower the road. It is what it is and the video site which kinda started as a joke is now world famous.
