It's hard to predict what people will do when they spot money on the ground, and even though we're quick to think people will just snatch it up for themselves as soon as they spot it social experiments have shown otherwise.
Artist Jamahl McMurran and his guest Lana Mesic decided to use the 15,000 2p coins he had left over from a previous art installation to conduct their own social experiment, so they poured the pile of coins out by the canal and film the results.
There were a few coin snatchers as expected, and one little kid filled his bag and struggled to drag his loot home like he was doing a Little Rascals bit.
But the really funny reactions include a guy who set an umbrella on the pile and shot a pic, the kids who played in it like a sandbox, and the magical dude who made coins rain on himself

But like all fun public projects some jerks showed up and shut the experiment down by snatching up the entire pile, their greed ruining the fun for everyone else.

Still, I'd say the experiment went better than expected, considering how much fun people had with the coins before they were snatched up.
