Landline Users Now a Minority in the U.S.

A survey by the National Center for Health Statistics finds that the majority of Americans live in a home without a working landline. That doesn't mean the majority of homes no longer have a landline. Those most likely to be cell-only are renters, young people, and people living with unrelated roommates. Do you live in a home that has a working landline phone?

When I moved into my current house in 2008, we never bothered to get landline service. I don't even know where the outlets are, besides the one in the kitchen. Recently, a storm brought the wire down onto my driveway, and I just rolled it up and hung it on the outside wall.

In France we get packages : landline and internet, and you can add cellphone and TV., all with the same company. So I still hav emy landline, that I don't use that much.

One impact is the disapearance of our yellow pages books, and thus company.

I canceled my expensive landline 6 years ago, in favor of a much-cheaper cellphone. Yet I still get the unwanted phone book every year, which goes straight into the garbage can. Sorry, trees.
