What is This Strange Creature With Two Heads and Three Eyes?

Facebook user Lujan Eroles ran across this strange creature with two heads, three eyes and a weird skin and asked the Interweb to help identify it.

It's probably a caterpillar, but that's a boring answer. I vote for the double-headed serpent, a gift by Aztec emperor Moctezuma II to Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes, came to life.

Let's poke it with a stick:

I'll start the boring part by suggesting that the body shape and behavior are consistent with a caterpillar of an underwing moth (probably catocala spp.)

Someone on Facebook ID'd it as a Hemeroplanes triptolemus caterpillar.
Nature is scary even when it's not.

It's an Elephant Hawk Moth Caterpillar and apparently regularly make the "what is it" rounds on the interweb. From the UK with a video of it eating:
