Once a woman became involved with a Mafia man, close enough to know what he did for a living, there was no way out except death. But there were plenty of women who embraced the lifestyle, even to the point of participating in crimes with their husbands and boyfriends. And they had to put up with a lot, like being shot by your significant other.
Take bit-part actress Alice Granville (above) who was shot twice in the arm by her hitman husband Pete Donahue. Apparently she didn’t even wince. Donahue was a trigger-happy lieutenant for mob boss Dutch Schultz. Granville said her mob beau only shot her to prove how much he loved her. Hate to think what he got her for Valentine’s Day.

It would be like saying you can't use a high powered sniper rifle from behind a rock to hunt a deer, but instead you have to walk up to it, offer it a carrot instead, and then I guess slip a bag over its head to suffocate it to death.
