The Goth subculture has a suitably shadowy history, and like many of the post-punk scenes of the late 1970s there are disagreements about where it started and who started it.
Some say Goth started with Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie and the Banshees, others say she was just part of the scene that actually stole their look from Dr. Frank-N-Furter in Rocky Horror Picture Show.
This animated short by Pitchfork goes with Siouxsie as the first Goth, which I can't hate because Siouxsie is great!
I was totally on board with those kids presentation until they got to the "Kanye is Goth" part. *shakes fist* Kids these days!
