10 Most Interesting Vertical Homes

When you build your own home, why would you want a house that’s taller than it is wide? Well, maybe the view from the top is worth it. Maybe you have limited land, or need to preserve the acreage you have. Or possibly the land you have offers a small workable footprint for a structure. Or maybe you just like the idea! Check out this sweet townhouse in Smuggler’s Nest, Vermont.

Designed by John Beckmann of Axis Mundi Architects, the Vertical House was built by placing wood cladding on a concrete and steel frame [3]. After entering the house via a bridge that takes you directly to the staircase, you move upward through the kitchen and dining room, living room, and master bedroom before accessing the open air garden on the roof.

See ten fascinating vertical homes in a list at Housely. None of the descriptions mentions anything about an elevator.
