Why You Don’t See Great White Sharks in Aquariums

When the movie Jaws sparked a fascination with the great white shark, aquariums all over tried to get one to display. That didn’t work, for a variety of reasons. The only institution that had any luck at all was the Monterrey Bay Aquarium, and they expended a huge amount of resources for rather weak successes.

It eventually dawned on all aquarium officials that the most prudent thing was to give up. Vox explains why keeping a Great White in captivity is a losing game. It’s a completely different kind of fish. -via reddit
