Elvis's Legendary Midnight Run to Denver for a Sandwich

On the evening of February 1, 1976, Elvis Presley was entertaining friends at Graceland, his home in Memphis. They reminisced about a particular sandwich they had eaten at a particular restaurant in Denver, Colorado. They decided right then and there to go get some of those sandwiches. Elvis had his private jet prepared for an immediate flight.

The sandwich in question is the Fool's Gold Loaf. It's a loaf bread hollowed out and filled with 1 pound of bacon, 1 pound of jelly, and 1 pound of peanut butter. Elvis liked it a lot and was quite willing to go to enormous expense to have one immediately.

You can read the extraordinary story of Elvis's flight and the greatest party food run in history at Messy Nessy Chic. You can also find a recipe so that you can make your own Fool's Gold Loaf at home, which may be a bit cheaper. It "Serves one if you're Elvis. 8-10 if you're a regular person."
