Abandoned Wooden Soviet Spaceship Looks Like a Great Playground Feature

The Buran program was the Soviet Union's response to America's space shuttle program. It lagged far behind its US counterpart, launching only once in 1988 in an automated test flight. With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the remains of the Buran program, including the shuttle, were left to rot--literally.

Pictured above is a 1:3 scale model of the Buran orbiter discovered in an abandoned part of an airfield in Moscow. It was used in wind tunnel tests during the development of the Buran design. Aleksander Markin photographed the model 2 years ago. Christopher Jobson of Colossal says that it looks like a great feature for a children's playground. With a bit of cleaning, I'd say that he's right! You can see more photos at Colossal.
