Shimmering Kinetic Sculpture Made from Thousands of Eyeglasses

This is sea/see/saw, a kinetic sculpture by Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett. The two artists from Calgary, Alberta used 14,000 lenses from discarded eyeglasses to make this massive, shimmering display at the front of the Pera Museum in Istanbul. It's designed to mimic the way the light dances on the surface of the Golden Horn, the waterway that for nearly two millennia has brought riches into that city.

The Pera Museum occupies the former Hotel Bristol, which was built in 1893. Brown and Garrett made this sculpture to honor the museum on its tenth anniversary. They explain:

[…] sea/see/saw invites viewers to re-examine a familiar space through a new lens. Museums change our perceptions of culture, art, history, and our current time and place. sea/see/saw’s use of lenses playfully speaks to changes in perception, celebrating Pera Museum’s contribution to Istanbul’s cultural landscape, with an eye focused on the future.
