Making Coffee-Stained Leaf Paintings Is Only the Beginning of What This Artist Can Do

The further I scrolled down in Ghidaq al-Nizar’s Instagram page, the more amazed I was at what he can do. This Indonesian artist specializes in the use of coffee, but uses it in many different ways. It was his paintings with leftover morning coffee on leaves that first got my attention.

Then I kept scrolling. He also uses coffee grounds and drippings to create wondrous imaginings that show both inspiration and technical flair.

In an interview with Websta Diaries, al-Nizar explains what coffee means to him as a medium:

2. Why coffee and not normal paint? Any difference between the two?

I love intimacy. I feel it with coffee and It’s fun to have fun with something you love. So I can’t find any better medium to celebrate my feelings. Artists have to feel when they do something, and I think it applies for everyone. I have tried to paint using other media but [I didn’t have any feelings for them]. If you can’t feel it, you will leave it.
