ChebuRussiaTV recently set up an experiment using a hidden camera placed on a man who would be posing as half of a gay couple, walking hand-in-hand with another man through Russian city streets. As expected, Russia's well-known anti-gay sentiment manifested in a number of ways; mainly profanity and physical roughousing such as pushing and shoving. English subtitles give one an idea of the hate that openly gay Russians face every day. Via Design Taxi
They’re braver than I would be in the same place. I’ve seen pictures of Russian men bloodied for less. But times have changed. According to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and other things I’ve read, it wasn’t all that long ago that two men holding hands while walking was rather common and a sign only of friendship in Russia. It’s still common in many countries.

Russia has so many huge problems, homophobia is off the bottom of the list. Maybe when reporters no longer get murdered, the massive systemic corruption and cleptocracy gets addressed, the economy improves, and more, then maybe the homophobia and antisemitism can get some attention.
