Architect Jeffrey Pelletier's 250,000-piece LEGO collection is impressive, but what's more impressive is the manner in which he organizes it and the fantastic basement space that houses it. Pelletier's neon-colored house covers an incredible basement complete with nine-foot ceilings and a hidden screen for movies. This is one tricked-out LEGO/man cave and it looks like a ton of fun, even if the kids turn out not to like LEGO. -Via Nerd Approved

Dunno how much we've got - about 25kg at a guess. It's just jumbled in several crates. When we want it, we tip it all out in a heap and rummage.
Organisation is fine, but serendipitous discovery works better with a piling system.

Awesome... but still too much rummaging. We sort ours (around 130,000 elements) in smaller drawer systems with a detailed labeling system to make identifying and pulling much faster. Easier on the pieces themselves too (avoiding scratching/scuffing) since you aren't scrounging them around in bins against one another.
