The child’s head is stuck between two iron bars in the gate. It won’t fit back through, so you have to wonder how he got it in there in the first place! But mainly, we wonder how they are going to get the little boy out. Think about whatever suggestions you may have as you watch and see how they eventually freed him. -via Boing Boing

When I was a kid, I saw a rerun of Emergency! where a kid gets stuck between bars like this. Later, during swim lessons, one of the other kids manages a real-life version of the same, and I remember the instructors discussing the TV episode. The solution then was that the bars weren't completely parallel, and higher (or was it lower down?) they were slightly wider.

Isn't that the same for a mouse? That they can fit through any hole that their head will go through.

Ears often act like ratchets. Tuck them in and the kid's head can usually be persuaded to come free. Failing that, a car jack works wonders - you usually only need to spring the bars apart 10mm or so to make all the difference. Jacks are usually nearer to hand than emergency services. I've done several over the years.

It's those darned spring-loaded ears. They can squeeze through the bars going forward but you can't simply pull them out in reverse.

I was thinking 'Get some oil'. But at one point in the video, I did wonder if he could crawl through. And you have to wonder if that's how he got into the situation to begin with.
