Pizza Hut Wants to Read Your Mind

You're not sure what you'd like to order? Your waiter would like for you to make a decision, which is one reason why Pizza Hut has introduced what it calls "the world's first subconscious menu." It's a tablet computer that tracks eye movements. Whatever your eyes linger over the most are what you will order. So to select pizza toppings, just look at the ones you like longer than those that you don't.

Pizza Hut is testing the service at 300 restaurants in the UK. The pizza menu has 20 different toppings for a total of 4,896 possible combinations.

It's all part of an emerging trend to make buying pizza easier and therefore more impulsive. We've previously seen a refrigerator mounted button that orders a pizza. Pizza companies are devising other ways to make buying their products faster. Drew Harwell writes for the Washington Post:

But the pizza arms race has brought about a growing line of questionably useful technology aimed at knocking down one of the few remaining borders between wanting a pizza and eating one. Xbox One gamers in the U.K. can say "Domino's, Feed Me," and the voice-activated console will send in a delivery order instantly. And hundreds of thousands of customers have already used the chain's new voice-ordering function of its mobile app, added this summer. (It's a lot like calling in for a pizza, except you talk to a computer, instead of a person.)
