Garfunkel and Oates have a song for all the losers. I love this, because it embodies so much of what I tell my kids, as they apply to super-selective colleges, try out for scholarships, and look for part-time jobs. I tell them to always make your reach exceed your grasp, because otherwise you’ll never know how far you can go. Besides, you learn more from your failures than you ever learn from your successes. Having just watched the video about the young woman who has cerebral palsy, ran a half marathon and came in last - but still won everyone's hearts - this was a very appropriate song.
