Pit spent his days jumping from platform to platform, shooting arrows at strange creatures and crying out for help from the goddess Palutena. She helped the kid however she could, sending down hearts and power ups so Pit could continue his journey and live up to his destiny, but the stairway to Heaven was full of grim peril. He heard the song of the swan playing in his head, and gave no quarter to any creature that got in his way, but when he saw the Reaper flailing about he nearly jumped out of his sandals!
