Before experimental filmmaker Lars Von Trier had begun making horrifying miniseries like The Kingdom and The Kingdom II, compelling films like The Element Of Crime and Zentropa, and downright dirty films like Nymphomaniac he was a young man obsessed with stop motion animation.
He created this cute, yet somehow still creepy, little film called Turen til Squashland when he was 11 years old, created using a paper cutout style of stop motion animation resembling a dream sequence you’d see on South Park.
It’s a far cry from the darkness and depravity found in his later films, and it shows that even visionary filmmakers like Lars Von Trier have cartoon skeletons in their closets!
