Late Show host David Letterman has announced that he will retire in 2015, after 33 years of hosting his late night talk show on two different networks. No other late night host has had such a long run. And even though he has a year to go, the wagons are circling to decide who will replace him.
People who are in the loop say that CBS thinks Stephen Colbert would make a good replacement, and Colbert is open to the idea, although there have been no formal offers made. Other top choices include Ellen DeGeneres and Tina Fey. Craig Ferguson, whose show airs right after Letterman, would seem to be the obvious choice, but CBS doesn’t feel his style is right for the earlier time slot.
Other possible candidates are Neil Patrick Harris, Chelsea Handler, Conan O’Brien, John Stewart, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, Jon Oliver, and Louis CK. Who would you like to see CBS hiring for the 11:30 talk show?
