A Collection Of Men's Hairstyles From The 1970s - Neatorama

People made some bad style choices in the 1970s- leisure suits, Earth shoes, zippered and belted jumpsuits, and lemon yellow polyester slacks all come to mind as fairly common fashions that were fairly hideous.

But whether you escaped the decade fashionably unscathed, or you have a hideous Disco phase among the skeletons in your closet, chances are bad 70s style affected your look in one way- a bad hairstyle. We've all had our share of bad hair, but guys really got the short end of the stick during the 70s when it came to coiffures.

Seeing these bad hair pics will either make you appreciate your own hairstyle, or give you an idea for a new direction to take with your hairdo.

When I was 13 or 14, I wanted a pair of Earth shoes so bad. We had to drive to a store on the University of Tennessee campus, because despite having a half-dozen clothing stores on Main Street, my little town had no Earth shoes. Then they cost TWICE as much as any shoes I'd ever worn before. I was so proud of them! But a few weeks later, I realized that walking around with your toes elevated above your heels was not all it was cracked up to be.

These hair styles would drive me crazy. I'd get weary of my hair flopping around and making my head hot.

IIRC, it was at this time that hair spray started being marketed for men.

Having been a teenager then, I can say that I don't believe I ever saw anyone wearing their hair, except row 3, pictures 1 and 3 from the left. Most of the guys I was in schooll with wore variations on surfer hair: partially over the forehead, covering about half the ear or so, and mid-neck in back. Those are definitely photos from a hair styles magazine or book. If you watch the video, the second photo, the one with a pipe, is similar, but needs to be roughed up a bit.
