For the Chanel fashion show during Paris Fashion Week, Karl Lagerfield recreated a shopping center in the Grand Palais, complete with groceries, as a backdrop. All the products were labeled as something to do with Chanel. The models wandered the aisles, some pushing shopping carts. Then when the show ended, the audience of more than 2,000 people started their own shopping spree! The catch was: the props were not for sale, and were confiscated at the checkout lines. Patrons were not happy. Bill Cunningham of the New York Times describes the funny but fashionable chaos that ensued. -via Metafilter
