Lights Out, a short film by David Sandberg, illustrates the difference between old-fashioned Hitchcock-style suspense and whatever the newer special-effects-dependent horror films are called. Gorefests, maybe? You don’t need all that, because the scariest thing you'll ever encounter is your imagination. This story won Sandberg the Best Director award in the Who’s There? Oh God, I used to be so afraid of something like this happening when I was a kid. Your imagination goes wild. Her biggest mistake was leaving the safety of under the covers. Nothing can get you there.
