Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues was released in theaters in December and it was a hit. But it will soon be released again -in theaters- with 763 new and raunchier jokes replacing the original dialogue. Why? Because they can. The improvisational method they used to make the film left them with lots of jokes that didn’t make the original cut. When trying to select some unused scenes for DVD extras, they discovered they actually had enough extra footage to make a whole different movie.
“We started talking and realized, we can replace every single joke in the movie with another joke,” said Adam McKay, who directed “Anchorman 2” and wrote the film with its star, Will Ferrell.
Mr. Ferrell was expected to announce the rerelease during a Thursday night appearance with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show.”
Mr. McKay, who spoke by telephone on Tuesday, said that “there were a couple of jokes left for continuity” but that 95 percent of the gags were stripped out and replaced with alternate bits that had been left behind in the editing process.
The new, longer movie Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues: Super-Sized R-Rated Version will be released to 1,000 theaters next Friday. -via mental_floss
