This isn't your stereotypical Amish paradise. Pinecraft is a small beach town outside of Sarasota on Florida's Gulf coast. It has about 500 bungalows on 120 acres. During the peak season of January through March, buses take people there from Ohio. About 75% of those travelers are Amish. They're mostly New Order rather than Old Order. According to one survey among New Order Amish, 54% of respondents had been to Pinecraft at least twice.
There are Amish and Mennonite churches in Pinecraft and even a school with about 50 students. Most vacationers use trikes to get around. There's a park with a playground and a shuffleboard court. Some of the vacationing men go out onto the Gulf on charter boats for deep sea fishing.
