A Building Sheds its Skin

This building has apparently lost its Ivy League status. There’s no word on where the building is, or whether the “vertical garden” was removed deliberately or just fell by its own weight. I’m also not sure if this vine is some kind of ivy or euonymus or creeping fig or ficus. But it’s a certainly an a-peeling picture! The downside is all the birds and bugs and spiders that are now looking for a new home. -via reddit

All the ivy I'm familiar with wouldn't let go without taking the brickwork with it. I've spent some long hours scraping ivy loose. Seeing vines peel off in a sheet like this would almost be an orgasmic experience.

That happened at my home. It's creeping fig. Looks really cool; covered one side of the house uncomplainingly for years. One day I walk outside and it's curled up in a ball on the ground. Cut off the fallen sections and it's grown back to cover the wall once more. The dogs loved sniffing at it, what with the scent of birds' nests, rodents, etc.
