The ridiculous anti-smoking campaigns that air these days act like you’re a baby killing monster for wanting to smoke, but initially the anti-smoking PSAs took a gentler approach to getting people to quit- by telling them that they have a choice whether to smoke or not.
This animated short/PSA from 1981 is believed to have been made in New Zealand by Disney animator John Ewing and his company Freelance Animators Ltd, though it's uncertain because there aren't any studio credits attached to the film.
Smoking- The Choice Is Yours was made to appeal to adults and kids alike, showing us the dangers of smoking from the perspective of a cowpoke named Edgar, and unlike those awful Truth ads we're stuck with nowadays it skips the scare tactics in favor of some good old fashioned animated appeal.
