Should Mattel Make a Plus Size Barbie?

The Facebook group Plus Size Modeling put up a simple post that has gone wildly viral. Should toy companies make fashion dolls that reflect the body shapes of curvier women?

Keep in mind that if Barbie were scaled up to human size, she'd be 5'9", weigh 110 pounds, have a 39" bust, an 18" waist and 33" hips. Her shoe size would be 3. If Barbie looked like the typical 19-year old American, she'd look this. But what if she looked like someone more rubenesque?

Should Mattel make a plus size Barbie doll?

Grew up with an original Sindy doll. IMO - she looked a bit more realistic than Barbie. But in some strange ironic twist, Sindy doll slowly evolved into a Barbie copy.

The "Barbie-company" makes them this way because of profit...
Even if they should make Barbie looking more lifelike, they wont't if they wont sell it...
Sad but true... the next step is:
"Skelita Calaveras"
from the monster high line of the same "Barbie-company"...

Tired of the "If Barbie were real, she would fall over, have back problems, etc..."
Toys are usually supposed to be idealized and fanciful, not realistic.

Maybe we're a world that's forgotten how to separate reality from fantasy. In Baguio, PH, for a few pesos, you could have your kid's picture taken on the back of horse with a bright pink mane. Probably the saddest-looking horse I've seen. That's reality for you.
