About 12 years ago, I wandered into the American Girl store in Chicago with my young daughter who needed to find a restroom. We were directed upstairs to the restaurant, where I was surprised to see young ladies who seemed way too old to be playing with dolls sitting at tables with their dolls, wearing matching outfits, as if that was normal. That was my creepy introduction to American Girl dolls. The store in Los Angeles that Conan O'Brien visited was much fancier.
