Santa Claus uses only locally sourced coal, but it still takes a lot of work to extract it. He has to keep up with demand and considering how you've behaved this year, that's demand for a lot of coal. 300% may be an optimistic projection, despite the claims of this Berkeley Mews cartoon.
P.S. Really, Santa: coal? Let's try to be a bit more eco-friendly next year. Instead of giving naughty children lumps of coal, give them lumps of hydroelectric dam.
