The Book Benches of London

The National Literacy Trust is a British charity that promotes, as you might expect, literacy. To encourage people to read, it has commissioned artists to paint book-shaped public benches in London. These will go on display in the summer of 2014.

Pictured above is Mik Richardson’s illustration of Kenneth Grahame’s classic children’s novel The Wind in the Willows. Other books featured in the program include J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, Michael Rosen’s We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four.

The program is currently soliciting companies and organizations that would like to sponsor a book.
