Tom Kaufmann is a musician, sculptor and instrument maker. He makes primarily percussion instruments, especially glockenspiels. In Mr. Kaufman’s hands, anything can become an instrument, including car brake drums, oxygen tanks and crescent wrenches.
This glockenspiel is made of petroskey stone—a form of fossilized coral. Mr. Kaufman selected and arranged pieces of it into a completely functional instrument. Watch him perform the theme song to The Flintstones.
