Provided that you have agile librarians, here’s a great idea for a library design.* Playoffice, a design studio in Spain, focuses on objects and spaces for kids. That’s why it stretched a net across the terrace of a two-story home library. It’s a place for children (and those of us who don’t want to grow up) to read, play and rest. Nina Azzarello writes that “parents downstairs can watch from below.” Sorry, Ms. Azzarello. Nothing is keeping me off that net.
*Yes, yes: there are obvious ADA and liability issues for any public library. But I’m daydreaming here, so don’t interrupt my fantasy. I’m already thinking about how to set up my reference desk.
Children may suffer permanent damage from back pain, hunchback, near-sightedeness and many other medical condition. Use at own risk.
