See this gas station? It was designed by none other than Frank Lloyd Wright.
Really! That's the same architect who designed Falling Water among other architectural gems. It might seem odd that Wright would stoop to designing a humble gas station, but he did once design a doghouse.
The R.W. Lindholm Service Station in Cloquet, Minnesota was built in 1956. It was supposed to be part of an entire neighborhood designed by Wright as a model community. Ray Lindholm hired Wright to design it after the architect designed Lindholm’s own home.
The construction cost $20,000. Wright didn’t supervise it personally because he was busy at the time overseeing the construction of the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. That's a pretty good excuse, don't you think?
It’s been passed down in the family and is now owned by Lindholm’s grandson, John McKinney. It’s still in good condition and is open for business.
