This thing? It's not even a flesh wound. Here, take this. Now I've got a game to win.
This appears to be the attitude of Pascal Dupuis, a player for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Last Wednesday, he sat on the bench after getting bumped by a teammate. A trainer asked him, "Do you want to take it out so you don't swallow it?" Mr. Dupuis had no verbal response. He simply pulled it out.
The incident may be part of an emerging fad. Three weeks ago, John Tavares of the New York Islanders pulled out at least one and possibly three teeth.
Last Saturday, Florida Panthers player Krys Barch was sent to the penalty box. While there, he pulled out one of his teeth and threw it to a fan. That could earn the fan a lot of money because, USA Today’s Jimmy Hascup notes, “Game-used souvenirs are hot-ticket items for fans.”
