This Week at Neatorama

Check out the costumes we featured this past week on the Halloween blog! Have we reached the end of the Neatoramanauts Halloween costume parade? That depends on whether you send a picture in! If there's a picture of you in a Halloween costume, or maybe one that you made for a family member, we'd love to feature it on our Halloween blog. Whether it's awesome, embarrassing, funny, or just plain memorable, whether it was last year or 50 years ago, send it to tips@neatorama.com and and then look for it on the Halloween blog. Remember, the the top pictures will win the submitters t-shirts from the NeatoShop! See all the featured costumes so far here. Meanwhile, here's a montage of the costumes from this past week:

Also this week: Jill Harness gave us a look at The Fun Festivities of the San Diego Comic Fest.

Alex explained to us how Mechanical Engineers Discovered How the Arapaima Becomes Piranha-Proof.

Eddie Deezen told us the story of The First African-American Major League Baseball Player.

The Faces of Death came from Uncle John's Bathroom Reader.

The Annals of Improbable Research gave us A Simple and Convenient Synthesis of Pseudoephedrine From N-Methylamphetamine. In other words, how to make Sudafed out of meth.

The Paperback Revolution was brought to you by mental_floss magazine.

We had three new posts on the Spotlight blog this week, where you can see pictures in gloriously large size: Melting Girl, Age of Internet Empires, and Kraken Autopsy Proves the Monster is Delicious.

Jill brought us  another collection of Great Pics of The Week: WTF Edition.

The mystery items in the What Is It? game this week are feeders for livestock; when in use they are filled with hay. You knew that, as several commenters told us. But we wanted your funny answers! A t-shirt from the NeatoShop goes to pismonque, who made us laugh with this punny answer: "Those are both props from Cirque Du Silo." Chris Stevens also had a great answer with "These are racks needed to roast the ribs of mastadons and other large cuts of meat in a bar-b-que. Somewhere out there is a humongous sauce mop and a former flying saucer that has been converted into a ginormous Weber© Kettle!" That's good for a t-shirt, too! Check out the answers to all the items this week at the What Is It? blog.

We are proud to announce that Conceptis Puzzles are back! This week's puzzle is Color Pic-a-Pix Light. Look for a new puzzle from Conceptis every week.

Hy Conrad's Whodunit this week was called Them's the Brakes.

The Pzzlr this week was The Bake-off. Did you figure it out?

If you love figuring out riddles and puzzles and playing games, you should bookmark our new sub-blog NeatoPuzzles. There you'll find the Whodunits, What Is Its, Pzzlrs, and Conceptis Puzzles, plus new games coming soon!

The post The American Political Center had a poll asking where you are on the presented political spectrum. Here are the results as of today.

The social media post of the week was Fifty Shades of Grey Actor Quits Movie after Reading Fifty Shades of Grey, which was our biggest post on both Facebook and Twitter. Wonder Wobear and Other Great Cosplay Photos from the New York City Comic Con had the most shares on G+, and So Many Levels of Delicious: Chocolate Chip Nutella Cheesecake Cupcakes got the most Pinterest pins.

This week's post that received the most comments (besides the giveaways) was What Do You Need to Know If You’re Moving to America? followed by Is This Hot Mom a Fat-Shaming Bully? and Scott Adams (Dilbert) Offers Career Advice.

The comment of the week was from Chris Stevens, who responded to the Chekov/Chekhov post with "I always wanted there to be a Star Trek episode where Chekov gets a new phaser and shows it briefly in the beginning, and then it turns out to be the key to the entire plot at the end." That's a subtle and clever reference to the literary concept called Chekhov's gun.

The most popular post was by far Fifty Shades of Grey Actor Quits Movie after Reading Fifty Shades of Grey. In second place was Mechanical Engineers Discovered How the Arapaima Becomes Piranha-Proof, and 35 Animals That Are Exploding With Happiness was third.

The post that people ♥ed most was by far "I'll take anyone. Old or young, dad or mom, black, white, purple. I don't care. And I would be really appreciative. The best I could be." Coming in second was The Horses of Iceland, and in third place, we had a tie between Cat Solves Doorknob Problem and A Roman Bathhouse Still in Use after 2,000 Years.

And the most emailed posts, in descending order, were Cats Stealing Dog Beds, Pug Tongue Bath, and NumBurst.

There's a sale going on at the NeatoShop Halloween Shop, where you'll find discounts on Halloween masks, costumes, accessories, decorations, and party supplies! This would be the time to stock up on bargains, whether for this year or next year. For this year's Halloween costumes, order by this Wednesday (October 23rd) to insure delivery in the U.S. in time for Halloween.

Remember, we have extra content and fun at our Facebook page every day. Check out or boards at Pinterest, too! You are also invited to follow Neatorama on Twitter and Instagram. And mobile users: Flipboard makes it easy to keep up with Neatorama.
