If your state could only have one sport, what sport would it be? My immediate reaction was basketball, but then I came back to earth and yeah, Kentucky would probably select horse racing. Not by popularity among the state's 4 million citizens, but because of the big money represented by the few who run the industry.
The difficulty of assigning a sport to each state increases when you decide each sport can only be used once. However, high school basketball, men's college basketball, women's college basketball, street ball, and church basketball are all "different" sports. Yeah, right. Slate explained that Kentucky could've had men's college basketball, but they had to give something to Kansas. But then look at Delaware, who gets the sport of punkin' chunkin'! They really know how to have a good time.
